Doctor Who and Sherlock attract a special kind of crossover fans, known as Wholockians. With the Sherlock series 3 just behind us and the promise of series 4 ahead, it seems like a good time to talk about this particular phenomenon.
Doctor Who and Sherlock are both wicked clever shows, characterized by main characters whose intellect is often almost unbelievable. Both shows expect their viewers to be smart enough to figure things out without being hand-fed plot points. With the same show runner behind both hit series, it’s not hard to understand why fans love both.
However, a true Wholockian doesn’t just love both shows, we want there to be a world where the two shows coexist. Honest analysis of the Doctor and Sherlock leads to the realization that the two men probably wouldn’t get along… but does Sherlock get along with anyone? And John could easily commiserate with the companions, don’t you think? Sherlock definitely looks at him like he’s dribbled on his shirt.
So if you could create any scenario that would allow the Doctor to visit 221B Baker Street, what would it be? There are dozens, maybe even hundreds, of YouTube videos exploring that question; I’ll close with one of my favorites.
