The Britophile's Best of 2009

I wanted to take a moment to say Thank You! to all of my readers and friends who have followed this blog throughout 2009. You have made all the hard work worthwhile and kept my passion for Great Britain alive. Cheers for all the great comments too, which brought me many moments of joy and laughter.

Personally, I’m glad to see the year go. I think we might all agree that the past twelve months have not been the best for many and I welcome the new year as a chance for a fresh start. 2010 has a lot of excitement in store for our family, including a trip to the U.K. in June. No wonder I can’t wait for the old year to end!

But enough of the negativity, there’s always a silver lining to every cloud, right?

So here’s what I consider to be the best from 2009:

Favorite Film:
Pirate Radio (The Boat That Rocked)

Favorite Show:
Gavin and Stacey

Favorite New Show:

Never Mind the Buzzcocks (It’s new to me anyway.)

Favorite DVD Release:

BBC: Yellowstone

Favorite Album:
The Resistance by Muse

Favorite Single:

Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap (I know, they’re Aussies.)

Favorite New British Act:

La Roux

Favorite Feel Good Story:

Susan Boyle

Favorite Play:

Billy Elliot on Broadway. I saw it in October and it was superb!

Favorite New Blog:

@molesworth_1
@shawncookies
@longpour

Favorite YouTube Video of 2009:
David After The Dentist

I know it’s not British but it’s still worth a mention because it’s so damn funny, especially to parents everywhere. I went through a similar experience last year when my son got his wisdom teeth removed. It was the first time he had experienced laughing gas and he didn’t care for it much either. He chatted away in the back seat of the car, talking about girls whom I had never heard of and then asked when he would stop feeling so funny. LOL! I warned him he might want to consider staying away from alcohol in the future. Fat chance, huh? ;-)

I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of my list. What are some of your favorites?
