24 Hours London – Book Review & Giveaway
London buzzes with activity, any day of the year. But how on earth can you decide what you want in a city of almost 8 million people? The only thing for it is to break down the day, hour by hour and choose from the best London has to offer. And that is just what Marsha Moore does in her new book, 24 Hours: London.
Hour by hour, Marsha lists a number of places to see and things to do; some you may find familiar but others are like tiny gems that only a local would know about. Some of my favorite surprises include:
08:00 Postman’s Park – this park contains a wall of hand-crafted tiles honoring Londoners who died in aid of others. This park was featured in the film Closer. I always wondered what (and where) that was. Did you?
09:00 Cafe Progreso - this fair-trade coffee shop is owned by Colin Firth and he is occasionally seen behind the bar at the Portobello Road location.
12:00 The Churchill Arms – A pub that serves Thai food may seem odd, but Marsha promises that the combination delivers. This beautifully decorated pub is located on Kensington Church St.
15:00 The LongPlayer – Did you know there is a song that has been playing since December 1999 and will continue to play for the next one thousand years, until December 2999? Me either. It’s located at the Trinity Buoy Wharf Lighthouse and you can listen to it here.
16:00 Dover Street Market – It’s a market in name only, instead, you’ll find six floors of high-end fashion in a gallery like setting. Coming soon – Beatles fashion.
18:00 I Knit – therefore I am…going here because not only is I Knit a great place to shop but also a place for knitters to gather and spin a yarn or two.
20:00 Tayyabs – If you follow me on Twitter you may have read my tweets about Indian food. It’s my favorite ethnic food so I was pleased that Marsha listed Tayyabs since it was recently voted the best Indian restaurant in London and with hundreds to choose from, that’s really saying something.
Ah, so much to do so little time. You’ll never fall short on ideas as long as you have 24 Hours: London handy. It feels like you have all the secrets of London at your finger tips. Marsha’s hourly entries are short and sassy, just what I require in the ideal travel guide.
Now it’s your turn to get your hands on this fun and fabulous guide to all things London.
Marsha Moore is giving away a copy of her book to three lucky readers of my blog.
To enter, all you have to do is comment below and tell me what you would do if all you had was 1 hour in London.
Now that’s a challenge isn’t it? I will pick the best three answers a week from today (Friday, November 20th). And guess what? This contest is open to ALL of my readers, no matter your location, so get your entries in.
I’ll start off by telling you what I would do with my one hour in London – it was easy for me to decide and the first thing that popped in my mind. I would sit in front of a cafe with a cup of tea and take in all the sights, sounds and smells of my favorite city. I love to people watch and imagine what their every day lives must be like.
So what would you do? Let’s hear it!
By the way, I received a free copy of this book to review but it in no way influences my opinion and the author was not promised a positive review. You can read my full disclosure policy by clicking on Disclosure on the menu bar.
