When the Music's Over

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

The London Astoria will close its doors tonight for the final time. The music venue is slated for demolition and will be replaced by a new railway station. Located in Tottenham Court, the Astoria opened in 1927 as a cinema but has been a venue for live music for the last 20 years, hosting artists as big as U2 and The Rolling Stones. NME is hosting a blog where people can post their memories of the Astoria and what they will miss most. Is it the sticky floors, the ogers who worked the door or the warm beer?

I just hope the new railway station isn't form the "Big Ugly Box" school of architecture. Gosh, but they put up some dreadful buildings here!
